The International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) is a voluntary code of best practice developed by the business aviation industry. It advocates the adoption of a scalable Safety Management Systems (SMS) to help business aircraft operators proactively identify and manage potential risks.
The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) requires an SMS to be incorporated into the national safety regulations for all operators of non-commercial aircraft over 12,500 pounds maximum take-off weight or turbojet-powered aircraft. For Europe, this is now implemented.
