About Commander Aviation Services

Commander Aviation Services Ltd was established as a leading force within the UK based aviation consultancy in 2006 by Bob Commander.

Having served as a General Duties Officer and Navigator in the Royal Air Force throughout the 1970s and 80s, he joined the UK Civil Aviation Authority in 1988 and continued to develop the parameters for safety within an extremely competitive and risk averse sector.

In 1995 he became Head of Policy for General Aviation with responsibility for:

  • Formulating policy and progressing changes in the law affecting General Aviation
  • Liaising with the associations representing all aspects of General Aviation, from hang gliders to corporate jet operators
  • Fundamental to establishing a working relationship between UK and European government bodies for aviation

Previous experience also includes acting as RAF Ground Instructor in safety and survival and a number of years at Caledonian and British Airways as a Safety Instructor. He also undertook search and rescue duties in North Wales for three years . During his varied career Bob has encountered and overcome numerous situations that enhance his understanding of the sector he works within and makes him a dependable advisor on General Aviation matters.

Bob is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS). He is a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman in the Honourable Company of Air Pilots. He is a proud member of a number of associations and affiliations, listed below.
