CAS has delivered a report to The Crown Estate on the provision of Search and Rescue around the UK.
05 Dec 2001
The Crown Estate asked CAS to review the provision of search and rescue offshore around the UK and to give an opinion on the capability of the services available to cope with an incident in a wind farm or a development area for renewable energy sources. Over a period of 6 months, CAS visited the major SAR service providers and gained a good insight into the capabilities of the various services, including civilian and military helicopters and the RNLI and the Coastguard (the Maritime Coastguard Agency, MCA).

The Report was delivered to The Crown Estate at the end of September and it is currently being assessed by the Round 3 Health and Safety Forum members with a view to wider circulation in the near future.
The screenshot below gives a flavour of the contents and the Report runs to over 80 pages with numerous hyperlinks to source material including videos and presentations.
The Report is presented as an Acrobat Portfolio which allows easy reference to other source documents such as the Coastguard's own earlier framework document for SAR and the International Civil Aviation and Maritime Organisations' guidelines for the provision of SAR and the standard expected of a contracting state of these international organisations. The guidance is provided in a set of documents called the Inernational Aviation and Maritime SAR guidance (IAMSAR).

As mentioned, it is hoped to give the Report a wider circulation subject to the agreement of The Crown Estate and the Round 3 Health and Safety Forum, which represents a wide range of interests in UK offshore renewable energy developments.
