The International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) is a voluntary code of best practice developed by the business aviation industry. It advocates the adoption of a scalable Safety Management Systems (SMS) to help business aircraft operators proactively identify and manage potential risks.
But things are changing. The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) will soon require an SMS to be incorporated into the national safety regulations for operators of non-commercial aircraft over 12,500 pounds maximum take-off weight or turbojet-powered aircraft. For Europe, this is expected to be implemented in 2012.
Bermuda and the Cayman Islands DCAs have already announced a requirement for business jet operators to meet the IS-BAO standard. Air Safety Support International (ASSI) has supported the IS-BAO standard for introduction into all of the UK Overseas Territories as a suitable means of compliance with the OTARs (Overseas Territories Aviation Requirements).
As an accredited International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) auditor of IS-BAO, we can advise you on how to implement the internationally recognised IS-BAO standard and comply with the new requirement. We also offer an accredited audit service for companies ready to register their IS-BAO standard with IBAC.
Advice and auditing are kept strictly apart, so if we advise you, we can’t audit you!
